I just took over a country overseas and now some of my airforce are stuck in that country because it need Aircraft Fuel and Military Supplies.

The war was ended Feb 3813 and we now have Jun 3813.

Available before today was 14 Air Transport Units and 20 Mobile Supply Units, now from today 8 Air Transport Units and 10 Mobile Supply Units are available for that job...

Still waiting...

Now trying sending 4 supply units manually...

And the airbase (depot) they were in, was dismantled, see tat worked fine, so now the planes just sit there on the ground or..??? I hoped yesterday, if I dismantled the depot, the automatic supply system would empty it first, but no...

So, the result is, that I have 10 Mobile Attack Wings for no good. Why is it a soooo big problem to re-supply those damn units??

Airlifting 10 Units
MOBILE AW_001, MOBILE AW_002, MOBILE AW_006, MOBILE AW_007, MOBILE AW_003, MOBILE AW_004, MOBILE AW_005, MOBILE AW_008, MOBILE AW_009 and MOBILE AW_010 cannot be airlifted because they are short of supplies.

Well, everything was okay, all units came home, except for the 10 mobile untis. After nearly a gameyear after the war, I tried some different solutions, that is why you may have seen some weird dvelopment. The military base was there the whole time, but I deleted the off military airport and bought a new one and created a depot. But still, 22 air transport units just sit there doing nothing, maybe tomorrow..?

And yes honey, it was a screenplay, only for you :)

We found a bug.
Complex and rare but a real one and very old. I am sorry it happened.

Both the units and the depot are out of supplies and the algorithm that is responsible to send an air transport unit, after trying so many times, gave up on it.

The bug is very easy to fix.

We will fix it in the coming hour or two (before 11:00 am EST) and check tomorrow morning to see if the units are unstuck.

@jeff
The supplies are definitely flowing. Your depots have a supply target set of 1000 tons of gasoline. If you raise the supply target the deficit will be filled more quickly and your units will be able to move again.
As it stands, it'll take another 11 hours (real time) for your units to be fully resupplied and ready to go.

Game still does recognize that my auto-orders are active, and very generous, for aircraft fuel and military supplies. Best example is as follows.

Country: CC2 on LU
Monthly use of aircraft fuel: 12,597 tons
Current stock of aircraft fuel: 0 tons
Defense Helicopter Wing "Adams" stock of aircraft fuel: -15,000 tons
Order Strategy low-water mark for aircraft fuel: 24 months
Order Strategy order quantity for aircraft fuel: 24 months
Current Spending Space for CC2: 568.16B
Current amount of aircraft fuel on order: 12,644 tons

So, my expectation is that once my stock falls below 24 months of use, 24 * 12,597= 302,328 tons, that my country will order another 24 months of stock, or another 302,328 tons. I intentionally was liberal with these settings, accepting that I would invest in having a large stock and an order would be placed well in advance of my stock of aircraft fuel running dry. Instead, I am clearly below that level of stock and an order for barely one month of stock was placed.

This problem has been occurring for awhile, and requires tedious amounts of micromanagement to correct, especially for the 9 countries I have just on LU facing this issue. Please look into and correct this issue with auto-orders for these products. thank you!

Yankee

On LU it's not just aircraft fuel and military supplies.

The auto ordering doesn't seem to kick in until a country runs out of a consumable.

I noticed it showing it's ugly head right after Jonni "fixed his bug"

The supply of remote stationed units that did not receive supplies was indeed fixed and is unrelated to any of the issues you raised here.

The problem with the units was caused by an error that prevented air supply units from bringing supplies to the remote depot.

if there is indeed a problem with supplies, it must be something in the ordering of products. Hard to believe as it is used millions times every day for years, but maybe.

Yankee

Thursday, February 9, 2017 - 10:36 am Click here to edit this post
Jonni it's not just aircraft fuel.

Countries order at "best price" with a target of whatever quality you choose.

Best price contracts seem to take 2 months or I should say they are filled at the start of second month after ordering.

If I have a min target of 12 months and a order target of 12 months when I get down to 12 months supplies it should order 12 months of supplies.

It does not appear to be doing this many times it waits until I'm down to 1 month before ordering meaning there is no way the order could possibly be met in time before the country goes into a severe shortage.

I've got ammunition stocks that have never ordered automatically (most noted defensive ammo)

At first I thought this was a change in market conditions causing shortages. The countries are simply not ordering when min triggers are hit. When they do it's not always for the set amount.

Yes this system has worked well for years and showed up right after the "bug" was fixed. Related or not that's when it began to occur.

Jonni

Thursday, February 9, 2017 - 03:40 pm Click here to edit this post
@jeff A unit requires 2 months worth of supplies before it can be airlifted. A couple of your units are already sufficiently supplied that they can be airlifted. The others are still being topped up.

Andy

Thursday, February 9, 2017 - 04:19 pm Click here to edit this post
All this takes far too long.
we have also looked at the orders of aircraft fuel.

when the country has a shortage, the supply procedure changes priorities and tries to quickly cover for the shortage. It places a smaller order for 2 months supplies to cover the shortage. In your case, the shortage persisted because everything was transported to the remote depot.

This is probably another reason why supplying these units takes so long.

There is a shortage of aircraft fuel on the market and orders are not delivered.

we are changing the procedure:

if there is a shortage, an immediate order for 8 months supply will be placed and it will be delivered immediately.

once this is done, there is no shortage, and the supply procedure will kick in and try to get whatever you have set on the supplies page.

We think that the air units should have been supplied much faster.

The solution is:

1. Larger (8 month supplies) immediate orders if there is a shortage in the country.
2. Very large supply levels in the remote depot. Larger than you have set.
3. Enough air supply units and supply units on the ground.

The entire procedure could have been done in a couple of hours if the country/world market had full supply of aircraft fuel. and maybe a day or two, if many immediate orders were needed to get the aircraft fuel delivered.

You could have made it much faster with a single, very large immediate order for aircraft fuel.

we are patching the supply procedure right now.

Next bottleneck: The capacity of the air supply units.

We see that supplies keep coming but not fast enough.
we will increase the capacity of air supply units with the next update of the game, coming Monday.

The change will not require any action by the player, no need for more air supply units or cargo airplanes per unit.

Normal corps start with a certain amount of supply to make for smooth start. Space corps do not. To avoid causing damage to the (already small) market for space goods.
We'll check the documentation and update it accordingly.

Yankee,

We looked at the ordering problem of aircraft fuel and have seen that the auto ordering was turned off.
As we discussed on the chat, auto orders do happen if the stock of the material (that has a monthly use), is at a lower level than requested and the auto ordering is on.
Only if the stock becomes negative, immediate orders take place, for lower quantities and the objective is to fix the shortage.
Once the shortage is fixed, the system goes back to normal and will order the requested quantities.

We have tested and found no problem at all in the ordering system.

In the process, last week, we have replaced the shortage covering orders by immediate ones.
It will reduce cases of shortages in general across the game.

Andy, can you check Camp Victory on LU please? That country has an aggressive ordering strategy for both military supplies and aircraft fuel but currently has very little of either product and no orders for it. I have similar problems with many other countries. I assume the toggle for auto-orders you are referring to is "Automatic placing orders for products that your country needs". This is indeed turned on.

I still have 9 countries with no aircraft fuel, all with significant numbers of aircraft, and 4 with no military supplies, all with significant militaries. This is just on LU and all have auto-ordering enabled with aggressive strategies for those products. I used to fix this issue manually but stopped doing so in recent months. Just want to make a point that this is not a recent development.

Andy

Please check again as I think that it really works.

The problem in the resupply function is triggered by shortages on the market.

Because of these shortages, supplies in many countries were not delivered on time, and the amount on stock became negative.
Once this happens, the resupply function stops and an emergency supplies function takes its place, trying to resolve the shortage.
It orders small quantities that can be replaced at some point by immediate orders.
once the supply is positive, the regular function is back in business and order the indicated quantities.

We have now made the "emergency ordering function" place immediate orders. These are delivered, always, and the shortages are resolved.
We think that the regular ordering procedure will be called on more quickly and place the large orders.

What it will do to the market remains to be seen and also how long it will take for these resupply orders to be delivered.

Aries

Checked. Still 9 with no, or negative, aircraft fuel and 4 with no military supplies. Seems to be that you are saying that world shortages are fixed by turning off our ordering strategies. From a player perspective, it appears like this infringes on our control and forces us into tedium if we wish our orders to be filled. It also appears that we are forced to pay a premium for immediate orders as a consequence. Players have a case to demand their immediate order premium money back.

Is there a better way to resolve this? It seems counter-intuitive that a function that players expect to work to make their countries function simply doesn't do to circumstances they don't control. The order strategies page is complex enough that many players likely don't dip their toes into it without realities not functioning do their will on that page. If I say I want 24 months of stock ordered if I have less than 24 months of stock, why can't I have my order placed without having to visit each of my 22 countries on 3 worlds to do it? I can deal with that my orders wont be filled right away. It is more difficult to deal with that my orders are not even placed.

This is akin to being promised that my place in line will be held for me and I check later and this is no longer the case and I have to restart my wait. On the player control side, how can we as players identify world needs, and do anything about it, if the world market does not even reflect need since countries that need stuff are not ordering it?

I can see that air transport is now running in a better way than before.
It is clear that it should run much faster.
I am not sure if it is now good enough.

We are now getting many messages while this is running and are able to identify bottlenecks.

I expect to know more tomorrow and hope that it will be fixed.

All in all, we have seen several problems in complex transports that involve air supply and we have seen some difficulties that are related to sea transport.

Not happy about these problem, and very happy we have a complex case to find out and completely clean up the entire procedure.

In the process, we are reducing the number of truck needed in supply units, across all types.
This will reduce the amount of supplies and gasoline used by the supply units for own use and free more space for the supplies they deliver.

More tomorrow.

I have asked several days ago in this discussion, for the name of the country where supply units did not work

No names.

we have tested supply units in the last several days and had no problem.

War Problem

We had some locking problems when multiple wars took place.
The problem was old but we received more messages showing attack times the could run to 20 or 40 seconds. This was due to multiple attacks at the same moment.

we have done some work on this in the past days and in several instances had severe errors.
During war, at random, the login screen was showing in the attack window.
Also in some cases, attacks just stalled.

The reason for these problems is found.
We think that the problem is now resolved.
After many tests and other wars taking place there are no problems.

The military units issue is not part of this.

If anyone has a case with military units not moving/delivering please let us know where.

The Simcountry servers and operating environment/database tools were upgraded recently.
We hope that this was the last problem related to the software upgrade.
