Common Market Points

I have played this game almost from the time of its inception( under two different names because after you leave i couldn't return under the same name as it was considered "taken"),had 13 countries, 3 times on the security council and to this day i still do not recognise the real value of a common markets "points". They do not seem to be of much real value. Could someone please enlighten me?

They maybe add to score.

That's all they do, is add to the score of your main country.
