Why does my country/government purchase consumer items for the population?

It makes no sense to me and it is bankrupting my country. Can someone kindly explain?

Your country sells that stuff to you population.

Weird. People should be able to buy their own stuff from the store or whatever unless it is a centralized economy.

You should consider this game mechanic as your country importing the products to provide enough supply to the stores.

Would be nice if we could have import/export corporations instead of using the government budget to import everything.

Makes no sense to increase the supply chain.

If you’re not a free player. Place an order with your country using fixed price and the highest price possible. Then sell it to your corps.
