W3C - Name for the War competition world

If anyone has any suggestions for the name of the War Competition World, please let us know.

i'll start by saying I'm torn between Woden or Hyperion as a name for this new world.

4 worlds feature a color in the name, except for Little Upsilon. 2 Blue, 1 Gold, 1 White. We might want to continue with those colors, or maybe introduce another. Given the nature of it, being a war only planet, perhaps the color of Mars (Red) might be considered. Or Crimson. Not sure about having a one-word name.

Red Cerberus

Rinjani Red

Red Vesuvius

I'm just putting red as an example; not sure how everyone feels about another or the arrangement.

Adding to what Knome said. Crimson is excellent. I hope we include it in the name. Something like "Crison Tide" or "Crison Dawn".

some could say Hyperion could be viewed as being red in colour so yes why not.

I like Hyperion as well. It refers to a moon, to a color and just sounds cool.

SuperSoldier, you're probably thinking of the test world called Little Omicron. Apparently it was around for years as an unplayable beta. Then the Game News of around July 2010 announced that this new world would be available for players later that year.

Hyperion has a good ring to it also. "Eye of Hyperion"

Crimson Aries which is in honour of a long time player who would always teach about war and was always at the forefront of a war game. And one who is in my mind the god of war in this game.

Little Omicron was the name we planned for a new world but we are now looking for a name that will give a hint of what it will be used for.

Crimson Aries, why didn't I think of that? Aries is a name related to war, our veteran Aries is a war legend, so fitting.

In our opinion, for now:

Crimson Aries

is the best candidate.

Naming a world for a player who routinely bullied anyone who disagreed with him, including you Andy, is not the right idea. These days society needs less bullying and more inclusiveness.

I suggest the name Athena. She was a goddess of war but also was very civilized and inventive.

I like Aries more then most players. He was never a friend or anything but he helped me a lot and he had my respect. He did have his flaws as do we all but he also did a lot of good things. Having said that I do disagree with naming a world after a player.

Why not name the world after Wendy? Or after SuperSoldier? Or any other player that had an impact on the game?

Do you guys really want to honor somebody in that way?

The only problem with the Aries name is that is then seen as if we name it for this player.

This player chose a good name for a war lord.
so it is also a good name for a world.

The fact that we have a player with the same name is a problem.

Aries acted mostly very unfriendly to us.
We try to have a short memory or we cannot run a game like this.
This will not be a reason to do it or not.

As you may know, because of the special situation we do not let the account go down the drain. abandoned accounts are not doing great but for the sake of his long time here and his specific situation we have turned some "AI" functions to help.

I do not want to call a world for a player but we like the word.
probably hard to separate the two.

What about naming the world Hyperion.

But allowing the player base to choose the name of each region on the planet instead?

Since this will be a smaller world there will be I'm assuming 2 dozen regions? Aries, Wildeyes, Serpert, BlueSerpent, Keto, Laguna, EO, Whiteboy, PsychoHoney. These are where all fantastic warlords and they deserve to be honored.

In my opinion, I vote we keep the name of the world impartial to be fair. However, I do think its VERY fitting that we honor those past players with a region. That way we can remember them but your not put into a position where it seems like the GM is playing favorites.

The world will have about 2800 countries.
we would prefer smaller but our world generating software is never tested with very small worlds.

as each tryout takes 12 hours to generate with all maps, layers borders and a million other details, we will probably go for it.

Also let us know what the GM plans to do. Like I said the world name should be impartial. However, I see no issue in dedicating continents or regions to certain players who have left a lasting impact.

There is a big confusion with the name Aries. Aries is a name from astrology, a sign in the zodiac. Is the new world going to promote astrology?

Let's not confuse Aries with Ares. Ares was the mythological Greek god of war.

The ancient Roman version of Ares was Mars. That's the origin of the word "martial." Mars is a nice name, right?

...I think they already settled on not using Aries.
