What are you getting your significant other for Valentines day?

I am the worlds worst at buying presents for the love of my life. Another hoover or toaster wont do it this year.

Any suggestions?

I have been married for 19 years. quick question whats your budget, and what type of woman is she. is she girly or more of a tomboy. is she picky about clothes or jewelry.

another question do you have kids. if so heres what I did for my wife when we had young children. I found a nice spa and sent her there all day away from the kids. she says thats the best gift she ever received. just a thought.

also what ever you do never forget flowers, and dinner somewhere nice. its the small touches just as much as the big ones that matter with a woman. no offense but how old are both of you? that actually helps alot because older women want different things then younger women as well.

suggestions:

posh restaurant with live music (piano, violin..etc)

posh hotel

posh trip/ski resort/chalet/hotsprings/romantic getaway

spa (massage, manicure, pedicure) and THEN posh night out

designer dress/outfit for the posh night out.

some nice flowers for said night out

some posh wine

posh undies for later at posh hotel

or you could turn that toaster....into a Posh toaster.

everything sounds way better if you put "posh" right before it imho.

Depends on your budget. My budget=Flowers and a I love you card, a rented movie and root beer floats. Make that "Posh" root beer floats.

i've been married for nearly 50 years and we don't celebrate Valentine's very much. but she's more on the practical side and very family oriented. for us our priorities are our church, family and friends, and helping others. i tell her every morning, every time i come in and at night that i love her and that's she special. the most meaningful thing that i can do for her is to be there for her, as she is for me. a hand written note, telling her how special she is, is more valuable than expensive gifts. we can afford those things but they're not that important. and if you're not into writing get her a special card. but that's just us.

Don't say it depends on the budget to CraftyCockney, or he will lay the line down at 25 cents. Just smack him with wonderful suggestions repeatedly and let his mind fill with remorse, until he finally coughs out at least 50 quids.

If you really want to make it a meaningful day, you will have to entertain her *all day*. One gift won't cut it, whether it be a afternoon at the spa, a box of chocolates, a trip to the countryside, a symbolic gesture or a romantic dinner . But if you do all of those things...

I'm just cutting sex out of the options, because I'm guessing that's what the "useless male" part refers to. ;0

PS: If you do all of the above, Ms. CraftyCockney may just expect this kind of treatment every year.

I asked my bride what some of her favorite Valentine Days. She like the how the kids and I treated her a couple of years ago.

We "turned" our house into a fancy B&B Spa which began with breakfast in bed. The kids designed a menu and spa plan. It was a lot of fun.

With Valentine's on a Sunday this year, you have opportunity for giving her a lot of spoilage.

We will be having a romantic lamb dinner this year.

Heh, I never suggested it was a woman or my wife Meow. But she is, and she would rather be with her grandchildren than with me. No way would I presume to choose her clothes, (can you imagine getting a woman the wrong size blouse? *shudder*) and Jewelry is a cop out imho, but thank you very much for your input. The pampering scenario seems to be cropping up a lot, so I'm looking around as to whats something she would really like.

Summary so far - Root beer floats, the first spring daffodils from the side of the road, boil some water for a hot bubble bath (normally reserved for Xmas) and leave her with the grandchildren while I go down the shed for a couple of home-brews

What kind of hobby type activity does she enjoy? Something related to that; along w/ the usual chocolates, flowers, special evening usually make a great package.
