Mobile units will be added to Simcountry in the coming weeks.

Mobile units are fixed size units that are manned by professional soldiers and officers only, and can be moved anywhere between our five worlds and used in wars anywhere.

Mobile units can be transported out of the country by cargo shuttles into a space station docking unit and can be traded and sold to any other player. One unit can be transported in a single flight and up to 10 units can be stationed in one docking station.
The owner of the unit can move it between different countries owned by the same player and use them in any of the wars fought by the player.

When the unit is sold to a different player, it becomes part of his army and can be moved to any of the countries of the new owner and participate in wars fought by the new owner.

The units have a fixed number of weapons of certain types and as a result, also a fixed number of soldiers and officer

Just curious

After the initial setup cost will it be cheaper for econ players to carry these new units vs paying the higher government cost associated with econ countries?

If I were a war player I'd be concerned about the ability of people to use shuttles to move weapons (and now entire, pre-formed, fully upgraded units) in to fight endlessly.

This multi world play is starting to feel like Spock playing Chess.

Agree?

Not thinking of joining the war game. Just want to compare guns vs butter ecomomic costs with these new changes.

Replace some butter with econ friendly professional soldiers.

If I field a small professional army, would my government cost go down enough to cover the carrying cost of the professional army? (Agreed there is a setup charge for the army)

no one has yet given an answer to CC's question. what's the difference from what we've got now, except more expense. most of us don't set up default units so i can't see how buying troops will help.

Well in my case I have max pop of over 100m in most of my countries. This new feature will allow me to run a better econ country while i still have a large military. It will free up workers to go back to working in the civilian economy.

Also i think you could just have one army already preformed that you could just move around to your different countries insteady of having an army in each of them.

We do not think that everyone will use them. The same goes for the professional army.

The cost is higher so you must have a good reason.

I don't know if they will make any significant difference in local wars.

No need to use the mobile units or the professional army at all.

The mobile units will be for players who want to quickly transport troops around, land them from a cargo shuttle or from sea into any location and run wars in any place they want.

Doing this, they could use these units in wars across their empires on all worlds and will probably reduce the need for a full size army in every country

We expect some players to train the units to the max and they will become lethal tools of war.

I hope these mobile units will be more effective than normal versions
being we will spend GC to buy the soldiers
7.5 GC per 10000 soldiers
7.5 GC per 3000 officers
For now I am just buying em so I can make more company

Example:

a mobile attack wing will have about 5000 soldiers and 1500 officers.

Mobile units will be smaller than current units even after several more reduction in the size of current units.

Mobile units are easy to move around and could replace units in multiple countries. This could change the math.

if you are not into it, don't use mobile units.

One of the problems with warfare in the past was a veteran war players sitting in a c3 next to a juicy target.

Seems the new mobile units could create the same mismatch for players at war level 3 or higher.

Will there be stacking limitations based on a countries size?

see the thread about the cost of professional armies

in reference to andy's example manpower for a mobile attack wing... 5000 soldiers, and 1500 officers, amounts to about 1T game cash, for just the manpower for the unit, not the weapons, ammo and upgrades.

i was so looking forward to this. but am severely disappointed. i would expect the cost of the professionals to be high, but not so astronomical that it makes them to valuable to use in combat.

i guess thats my disappointment, they are so expensive, that they are to valuable to risk loosing.

Orbiter,

Perhaps too valuable to use/loss in combat. Or maybe not.

Say you field a basic defense in all countries with a token offensive force for taking c3's. Now add the mobile force in space to pack your offensive punch. (Or counterstrike force)

If you amortize the cost of your mobile force over all your countries on all worlds does the math not work?

Cheers,
