Multiple units in a battle (Kebir Blue)

How do you use multiple units for a battle?

ex. attacking capital city with

air wing
land forces
ect.

any help appreciated

If your land forces are near enough they can offer support during an air attack (it should be automatic), but I don't know if that adds to the destruction or just the defense of your own planes, or both.

That's all I know.
