I'm war level 10 on White Giant, which basically means I can't fight anyone. I have a war level protection from everyone because I killed a few more computer-fielded defenses.
There is only one player on the entire planet who is of a high enough level for me to fight, which is kinda dumb despite there being over a dozen players who've made it to war level 3. I've never talked to this other player, and have zero reason to attack him. If my federation goes to war against anyone else, I get to sit it out unless targeted directly?
Going up in war levels gives you gold coins, which is nice, but if you want to actually fight against other players (EVER) don't do beyond level 3 outside of FB. If I had realized getting a few extra gold coins would prevent my empire from ever engaging in any combat I wouldn't have done it. Seems like a waste to build up any military in them now since I couldn't use it.
Saying someone who can defeat higher war levels shouldn't be able to fight lower level players is also kind of silly IMO. You could... just not ever fight high level c3s and stay low war level. Doing that does nothing to change your ability to fight, but would actually allow you to play simcountry multiplayer.
I get the war level idea, but man it's really jacked everything up (as many/most players with any war experience have said). My opinion is that it should be much more binary (in or out of protection). Having protection at all is already a big restriction.
Creating "you made a high level against a computer so you can't fight people" rules doesn't help anything. If I had never fought a c3 since my return, I'd still know what I know and be exactly as good at war as I am now, but just would not be at a high war level.
The war level system 100% incentivizes smurfing. I wish I had done it myself.
