He is advertising for the stock market. Once my countries are self-sufficient, I will completely sever their connections to the stock market. I will dump my investment funds to complete isolation, and nationalize all of my public corporations.

your country trades about 30 to 40 percent on the local market which means your still importing about 60 percent of your goods and your employment index is at 90 percent which means with the 10% you have left you have to double the ammount traded on your local market and then some....im trading 50 percent on my country by just building good corps and updating contracts once in a while automatically

Yes Rick, but that's my country itself. Most of my corporations, on the other hand, get 80% of their supplies on the local market.

Our Union of National Proletarian States does not care about such things as the stock market. The stock market is the business of the capitalists; we leave such petty matters to them.

We know of its existence, but it means nothing to us. I don't have a single dollar invested in the stock market.

Correction: Soon, I will not have a single dollar invested. I am dumping my entire investment fund and selling all shares my country owns.

Sounds similar to the Continental System used by Napoleon to break economic ties with the British Empire. While entering contracts manually, do you give common market members first opportunity to accept those contracts? With a little work, all your product requirements could be met, with members building the necessary companies (for road maintenance, for example) to supply all other members. While not hitting the profits the free market allows, not suffering the vagaries is intriguing. As long as relative hardships are shared - hmmmm....

Actually, we did run into an emergency once. Common markets are not as profitable because the prices of products on common markets are not affected by the quality of the products. As a result, the corps get the same amount of money, for a higher quality product (thus, a product that is more expensive to produce). What happens over time is that the cost of production will increase until it is greater than the money you make by selling it, and the corporations start losing money across the board.

We implemented a very simple solution; we just stopped upgrading, and we are letting the upgrades wear off. The quality (and therefore, the cost of production) is decreasing, allowing our corps to begin profiting again from the common market.

I was under the impression that common markets sold goods for a higher price and therefore it was good to export but not to import is that true your take on it seems the oppiosite

Well I always wanted my country to be self sufficient and I feel i'm getting there step by step, producing almost all the products what my country consumes but the other problem is, is that my corps are buying products from the world market which I still need to work on, but not as much as you think though as i've set most of my corps at between 10 and 50% capacity as those corps don't need to produce that many goods for my country which in turn means my corps won't need to buy as much raw materials and products from the world market. Have a look at my country on LU 'The Kingdom of Pirates' Marshal and see what you think of it.

Regarding the Common Market, its not that corps don't sell at a higher price for higher quality products, but that because products are supplied at a higher quality and therefore a higher price, and therefore the profit-margins are dragged down. If you want a sustainable common market, you need to create products of a lower quality.

Marshall, back to what you were saying about self-sufficiency. Your idea can and will work, however like others have mentioned, you need a lot of people. The countries I have seen that have had success with what you are saying generally have 45-50 million people. I, personally, have done this before, If I remember correctly, I had roughly 45 million people with about 60 corps providing my country with what it needed. However, once you setup your country, for example one of my previous countries that I mentioned above, you don't usually make above 10B in profit each month leaving you with little room for expansion of infrastructure or funding for a war.
