World Cup 2014

I gathered during the last 2 years that this is a game mostly played by Americans, but still I expected someone would have already opened a thread about what's most important to the rest of us: Football (not soccer :P) in general and the World Cup in particular. Sigh... I guess I'll start conversing with myself:

Last night's refereing decisions were scandalous and robbed Croatia of a well deserved draw against the hosts. Brasil IMO are much less talented and much more predictable compared to their past squads. They'll need a lot of help to make it to the semis...

Teams to watch: Germany, Argentina, Urugay, perhaps Mexico and Colombia. I don't expect much from Spain and Holland. England and Italy are question marks. Belgium may raise a few eyebrows though. As for my country (Greece), we'll do well to avoid finish last in our group.

The US is in the same group as Germany, Portugal, and Ghana so we're pretty much screwed.

I just watched Holland play pretty much the closest thing to total football. Wow! Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie just totally demolished the world champions Spain 5-1. What a match and what a team!

Really hard match tonight for my nation against Colombia. I hope the gods of football are on our side - otherwise it could get quite unpleasant...

P.S. As a devoted Man Utd fan since the 80s I am already drooling at the prospect of Louis van Gaal coaching the devils next season

As an American i'm not much of a soccer fan but I do enjoy North Korean basketball.

Sticking to Deutschland obviously, then die Niederlande and Mexico third... Very happy the Netherlands defeated spain in such humiliating fashion, I hate em.

My preferences are:

+ Deutschland
* Italy

the world cup gives me so much surprises, like the victory of deutschland against portugal or the Netherlands against Spain.

The German victory over Portugal was not surprising hahaha, it was a predicted result.

Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has been banned from any football activity for four months and international games for nine games following his biting incident with Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the FIFA World Cup.

I saw that, it was crazy i kinda enjoyed it.

I know, it cracks me up when they get da ban lol I like his style though, i would prob bite people, kick em in the shins, throw my soccer shoes at 'em, if I played and got ticked off! ha ha ha ha

So... The Netherlands were down 1-0 till the 88th minute and still managed to win 2-1. Geuss who I'm cheering for? :P

just goes to show the USA are not great at everything hence soccer they cant even beat Belgium a minor euro country

After 90 mins the Belgians had 30shots on goal vs 5 from the Usa. I do have to give credit to the USA goal keeper. At 1 point i thought the man was made of latex.
