Oster - we may quibble about the exact amounts, but your premise about non-renewable resources is sound. We will eventually run out of those materials, and they will be replaced by other sources. Still, they have their attractions. Oil is simply the best cost to benefit energy source we have. Coal is cheap and, for the moment, plentiful.

Universities are not compelled or obligated to respect free speech, and nor are businesses or any other private organizations for that matter. Don't like it? Too bad. I find all this extremely entertaining for several reasons.
1) I find it funny that most people feel that if you don't agree with their world view they you have a mental problem, espeically when it come to politics. As if anyone ever took that as science.
2) I find it funny that anyone worries about what Donald Trump said during the primaries. Let me explain in two words: FREE MEDIA. It got his name on the news just about every night which was better coverage than buying adds.
3) Besides, it not like any politician actually has done what he said he was going to do before he got in office. Except for Obamacare and if you think that is a success you haven't been reading about insurance companies fleeing it as fast as they can.

To return to the topic originally introduced, race. I recently read a novel by Greg Iles, The Quiet Game. And I think he hit it on the head.
To paraphrase:
We tend to look at blacks as just another immigrant population. One that can't get it's act together. The Jews, the Irish, Poles, Italians etc. all came to this country and do not experience the problems blacks do. Only one other race group experiences similar types of problems - Native Americans.

The Native Americans had their land stolen out from underneath them, and their culture systematically destroyed. The Blacks were stolen from their land, and had their culture systematically destroyed.

Culture has a stabilizing influence. Until these groups come up with a unifying culture, we will continue to see poverty, alcoholism and drug addiction, high crime etc.

The people in America have changed. We've gone from a society where the peoples earned their livings with hard work and the ability to seize the American Dream - in control of their livelihoods and futures to those who want something for nothing, therefore being taken care of by the government. What people have to realize, getting something for free DOES come with a price.

I stand in amazement at the young people who want a free college education. Well, I wasn't afforded a free college education, nor my brother. Our parents sacrificed to pay the higher costs of education so that my brother and I could attend private schools and obtain a degree before entering the work force. We also worked and contributed to that goal. My dad worked three jobs. So my thoughts are, if you want it, you work for it. As parents, you prepare for it. You do without the half million dollar
