Just a couple of things. The biggest welfare areas are cities that have been democratic for decades. Cities and states even run by Republicans are doing much better.

The issue of same sex marriage is the issue of the state defining a religious term. What the state is really regulating is a joint legal status and that is what they should call it.

Again, it gave control of the welfare system back to the states. Now, you want to look at how those states vote for their state leaders? Well, let's keep in mind that Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, the top 3 welfare recipients are still heavily republican dominated states.

The point of the article, as with all statistics, it all depends on how your compare the numbers. Yes, some states have historically high unemployment and poverty. I think many locations have more to do with whose in the state house.

Proof of democratic city failures? Well, given that most really large cities are democratic and most rural areas are republican. But just take a look at places like Atlanta, Detroit, Oakland, Gary, Cleveland, Washington DC - need I list more? I'm not THAT old and there won't be social security for when I reach that eligible age, which is 15 to 20 years off. So, what do you have to say to that? Illinois, democratic for I don't know how long, is in major financial trouble, not to mention California. Most cities doing well now are run by Republicans. While this might not always be true throughout history it is at the moment.

I don't expect Trump to control Congress. That's not the president's job. His job, which presidents seem to forget lately, is to run the government bodies, not do Congress's job. I would be happy if he did just that well.

Blaming the voter for the actions of the Federal government over the past 70 years is like blaming the crime victim. We have been systematically robbed of our treasure by corrupt and inefficient government at all levels.

Where does it mention the words separation of church and state in the 1st amendment? Its called" Freedom of Religion". The government can't establish an official religion or interfere with people's right to freely exercise their religion. It does mean that people of faith can freely participate in government without any interference from the state. Also it means that people have the right to decide not to follow the Christian faith. The Bible talks about that as well. The only religion that has elements that desire a theocratic government is Islam. Iran would be a prime example of that. Saudi Arabia as well.

The phase 'separation of church and state' is from a letter by Thomas Jefferson, not even a government document. I get so tired of people quoting it like it is more than that.
