Its sort of weird this thread stopped talking about the U.N. and got into israel vs gaza stuff.... what does that have to do with the UN? i guess you can say its ironic how USA is one of the only countries in the entire world to offer such fervent support for all of israel's military actions, even to the extent of vetoing *any* security council resolutions that even remotely hint at blaming israel for anything that goes wrong in the middle east, AND YET i believe the USA has not been fully paying its UN dues for years-decades now.... talk about mooching and freeloading geez

If every country paid an equal share to run the UN then you'd have more of an argument Alexander, but the US is charged way out of proportion for the costs of running the UN; the decision to not pay all of the dues owed wasn't one of freeloading at all

Well, Maybe the U.S. shouldn't pay it's dues. We are the Sword of the U.N. After all. Geez...France and Belgium aren't gonna scare anyone.

Well, seeing as the UN was essentially a US creation and can't really do anything major that the US doesn't want it to, I am not sure why we wouldn't want to fund it.

The US is not so much the "Sword of the UN" as the UN is the "Diplomatic Shield of the US". It gives the US the diplomatic cover it needs to do whatever it wants, in exchange for what is essentially loose pocket change.

We spend a whole lot more on things that are a whole lot less effective...the UN is a bargain.

Slare i am not sure why you say that? I think its not like that. THe USA seems almost to be anti-UN lately, and the UN seems neutral to the USA and its peculiar rogue state goals.

Tell Hamas to stop their unwarranted launching of Rockets at Israel. Can't a nation defend itself? Its been doing so since 1948. If not before.

Killing Palestinian children only further validates Hamas in the eyes of Palestine. Yes they are a terrorist organization so how about the world community stop enabling them by giving them a leg to stand on.

Also, this so called war is beyond asymmetrical. Israel has (thanks to US tax dollars) one of the most advanced armed forces in the world. One iron dome missile costs a million dollars.

Knome's right, more and more Palestinians will see Hamas as freedom fighters if the slaughter continues. And do you really want your tax dollars to be wasted for Israel's "right to defend itself" Wolfker?

It's so charmingly youthful to presume you can sit in your nice western living room and have an educated opinion (let alone to presume you will be able to express this opinion in an absolute way in 4-5 lines in a forum) about the Arab-Israel conflict that has been raging on for, what, before your grandparents were even born. A jew three times a day prays that in their life time they will pray in their Temple. For 3-4 thousand years they have done this pray. Why?? The killing of children and innocent families is unacceptable, they must both stop... Why does Hamas fire though? Can someone explain to me (other than Nix, which will probably respond blaring about Zionism and his anti-semitism) why hamas is so opposed to the existence of Israel? I thought the British promised Palestine a state of its own, which included present day Israel then decided to carve Israel out of some of it after the holocaust. The European jews proceeded to move in to the formerly Palestinian areas. The way the middle east is divided doesn't make sense anyway, based on religious and ethnic boundaries. People fight and kill each other, its what they're great at. If not over some insignificantly small piece of land or an ideology, it'll be for something else.
