As for Pluto I would like to say you are most definitely a planet. None of this "Minor Planet" nonsense thought up by pointy headed idiots who can't count past eight!

Pluto is most definitely not a planet, being it's orbit takes this frigid little world well and truly into the Kuiper Belt.

So? your point being that it is a spherical body (due to its own gravity) that orbits a stellar body (the star called Sol in this case)...ergo a planet.

Are some of the Kuiper Belt objects therefore planets? The answer to that would be yes. The most satisfactory theory as to the formation of the Solar System so far predicted the existence f hundreds of planetary objects and lo we discover there are in fact potentially hundreds of planetary objects in the solar system.

Ceres et al should all be acknowledged as planets and pointy heads should demonstrate the ability to count past ten or give up all pretension to the practice of astronomy which inevitably is going to deal with some very big numbers indeed.

The definitions of a planet:

# It needs to be in orbit around the Sun

Check. Pluto does orbit the sun.

# It needs to have enough gravity to pull itself into a spherical shape.

Yep, this works too.

# It needs to have "cleared the neighborhood" of its orbit.

Oh dear. Has Pluto done this? Nope, not by a long shot. Neither have Ceres or Eris, for that matter.

What does "cleared its neighborhood" actually mean? As planets form, they must become the dominant gravitational body in their orbit in the Solar System. As they interact with other, smaller objects, they will either "consume" them, or sling them away.

Pluto is only 0.07 times the mass of the other objects in its orbit. The Earth, in comparison, has 1.7 million times the mass of the other objects in its orbit.

Any object that doesn't meet this 3rd criteria is considered a dwarf

And the next thing the Scottish Labour party will do now that it has done as much as it can do to complete what it set out to do before it got thrown out of England will be to make it as unappealing to become an English MP as possible.

Well well well. One of the conditions of Scotland gaining devolution was the agreement and statement that it would be not in the interest of Scotland to become independent. Guess what I watched the other month? LOL the BBC parliamentary program. And guess what i witnessed? LOL the Scottish parliament voting on whether it IS in the interest of Scotland to become independent. The I's got it and the Statement was changed.
Did I see one mention of it in the main stream news? Nope.
Hey whats the betting Scotland will get Independence and leave England with the debt of the UK?
