Chat issues (Little Upsilon)

I cannot log on to chat. Odd. Java and Flash are updated and I have no real reason found why I cannot enter chat....Any suggestions?

Is it giving you a message or just hanging at a particular point?

Will not connect to server. Gives me the maintenence message.

Hm I had that happen to me while back, rebooted and the issue went away. I'm not sure if that really was the fix for it or just got lucky. Never did track down the why behind it.

It has been a several day issue. I am running Vista/IE usually but it will not work on Firefox either which is odd.

I use firefox with it fine. Ela had the problem but it turned out to be our proxy server causing the main issue.

i have the same problem, my connection has failed two days in a row. but its always worked fine with the same internet server why is the connection failing now?

i have the same problem i have tried firefox aswell as ie, no joy any ideas would be gratefully recieved . Dom i've been blocked for like 2 months it really makes the game less fun

i use safari but its always worked until recently, can someone get in touch with w3 to see what the problem is?

Still no chat....I have reinstalled Flash and Java. Java reports working and works on other sites. Perhaps the new block has some thing to do with it?

Try clearing your cookies, browser cache and/or temporary internet files.

That didn't do anything for me. Are you saying that you have access to the chatroom?

Yes, I do have access and so do others (7 are on right now). It does come up as a "pop-up" where it used to open in another tab, but that is a browser setting. Try allowing pop-ups for SC. I use Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer on different PCs with np. Clearing the cache/temp files and cookies usually works when I've had issues with SC sites in the past.

No good. Wont work on IE or Firefox. I have never had any troubles before. Recently it stopped being able to connect to the server. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java and Flash. Checked for any changes to my browser settings and contacted my ISP. The only issue remains with W3C.

Sam, the error message you posted above has to do with Java in general. The Firefox error part referred to a Java script error call from some websites, supposedly FF has an update fix. The rest of the error code showed a faulty Java script call in the web site code. There are 2 locations to start up SC Chat I know of, one at the country login and one "in game" under Communications, they start up differently for me, so you might try using a different one than the one you're using. I have experienced faulty links in SC sometimes.

For me, Chat only starts up in IE6 not FF.

I believe Phatz is correct. Many people are getting errors due to script settings in their internet settings.

All script settings are enabled. I have made no changes to my internet settings before or after the chat issue.

Browser updates are notorious for changing previous settings. Sam, I believe I saw that your IE7 "security settings" were medium-high which is the default, try lowering them to medium or lower. You also might turn off "Pop-up blocker" and see if that helps. And Vista is of the devil, try running FF or IE as "administrator" instead of "user-mode", right click the icon to launch as... I think you're using Norton and it has it's own set of firewall and internet security settings to look at, Norton's bloatware has become more trouble than it's worth.

I hate Norton and Macafee....Got rid of them both. They use up too much processor speed. I use Windows Live OneCare. And I'm vista as well and log in under administrator.

Thanks for the great tips Phatz and Treasurer. Thank god for competentent people like you sharing your knowledge with us computer impaired geezers. Maybe now I can get the chat feature working.
